Mission

We convene international thinkers in medical education to:  

  • spark innovation and meaningful change through evidence-informed dialogue on cutting-edge topics and scholarship;  
  • create a welcoming and inclusive environment where medical educators with a variety of social identities can connect, reflect, nurture one another; and   
  • engage in disruptive thinking to advance the medical profession to better meet patient and population needs.

To be the community where joy, science, humanity and strength of residency medical education and learning come together.    

Goals

Each year, ICRE brings together more than 1,700 medical educators, physicians and trainees from around the world to share ideas, challenges, innovations, and advance training.

Audience

  • clinical teachers and educators;
  • program directors;
  • residents;
  • postgraduate deans;
  • program administrators;
  • government leaders and policy makers;
  • educational researchers; and
  • medical education leaders.

Objectives

  • Describe novel designs for residency education in the 21st century;
  • Describe key current trends in residency education, and identify the implications for their own program(s);
  • Adopt a number of new approaches for enhancing excellence in teaching and assessment in residency;
  • Describe best practices and research in residency education;

 

  • Describe new developments in competency-based education and the implications for residency education;
  • Describe different approaches to residency education from other countries and jurisdictions;
  • Describe the forces and science behind the quality revolution in medicine, and adapt residency education accordingly; and
  • Describe the implications of new technologies for residency education.
