Who are we?

Mission

We convene international thinkers in medical education to:

  • spark innovation and meaningful change through evidence-informed dialogue on cutting-edge topics and scholarship;
  • create a welcoming and inclusive environment where medical educators with a variety of social identities can connect, reflect, nurture one another; and
  • engage in disruptive thinking to advance the medical profession to better meet patient and population needs.

Vision

To be the community where joy, science, humanity and strength of residency medical education and learning come together.

Goals

Each year, ICRE brings together more than 1,700 medical educators, physicians and trainees from around the world to share ideas, challenges, innovations, and advance training.

Objectives

ICRE has offered cutting-edge, practical programming for over a decade that is geared both towards physicians preparing for practice and those in training. Now, to ensure that our programming resonates with our growing international audience of medical education leaders and next-generation physicians, we are on the hunt for two outstanding ICRE Resident Co-chairs for ICRE 2024.

Roles and responsibilities

ICRE Resident Co-chairs act as representatives and advocates for the resident community leading up to, and during, ICRE. The general roles and responsibilities of the ICRE Resident Co-chairs are as follows:

  • Participate in monthly planning committee calls with ICRE Co-chairs and Program Advisory Board (approx. 1 hr per call/month), where responsibilities include providing unique resident input/perspectives around the planning of the upcoming conference with regards to potential sessions, workshops, speakers, etc., and reporting back on any “action” items from previous calls;
  • Contribute to content creation, including blog posts, social media content and promotional videos;
  • Assist the onsite social media lead during ICRE 2024, where responsibilities include facilitating questions from the virtual audience during ICRE plenary sessions and producing/aggregating daily social media content to present during conference plenaries and online; and
  • Other subsequent responsibilities as agreed upon between the appointed ICRE Resident Co-chairs and the ICRE planning committee.

Please note: The selected candidate(s) will not receive monetary compensation for their role(s) but will receive financial support to attend ICRE 2024 in Ottawa, Canada.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have a strong interest in (and experience with) medical education. Applicants are not required to hold the “Chief Resident” position within their own training programs, but must show demonstrable leadership experience.

This year’s application process is open to international and Canadian trainees who are currently enrolled in accredited training programs, including residency or fellowship. In their role, the successful applicant(s) will collaborate with the current ICRE Resident Co-chairs.

We welcome residents from every country to apply. Applicants should have a strong grasp of the English language in speaking, writing and listening comprehension.

Submission instructions

The following materials are required to complete the submission process:

  • A copy of your CV (including PGY (or equivalent), specialty, institution/affiliation, and country of residence);
  • A statement of interest (maximum 500 words) explaining why you are interested in becoming an ICRE Resident Co-chair, and how your experiences to date would make you a good fit for the role;
  • A letter of support from your current program director confirming their support of your application;
  • A 30-60 second video of yourself outlining why you think you are the best candidate.
